MONDAY AFTERNOON . COLLEEN ON HER WAY
About an hour ago, "Transport" came with a rolling stretcher to pick up Colleen to take her down to the 5th floor of the Sheikh Zayed Tower, the newest Hopkins building that houses the EP procedure room. Two EP nurses and two EP anesthesiologists surrounded Colleen in a holding room with their kindness, evident expertise, and obvious familiarity with Colleen and her case. The lead anesthesiologist unhurriedly talked with Colleen about the anesthesia option(s) they are hoping to use in lieu of general anesthesia, which is highly problematic because of Colleen's fibrotic lungs. They are going to do everything they can to avoid it.
Just gave her a kiss a few minutes ago as they wheeled her from holding to the Pre-op/Prep room. I got the auspicious impression that she's the second EP procedure of the day. By the time "Transport" knocked on the door, Colleen and I were in full readiness mode again, readiness laced with apprehension, especially for Colleen. May this procedure make a difference.
As in Pittsburgh, the waiting room has a digital wall monitor that indicates the status of each patient by patient number and color. Green for in-Procedure Room and Red for Recovery/Procedure Over.
Colleen's status, Patient No. 902053, is Green.
