FRIDAY 1 PM
This morning's wild ride included visits by two doctors on Colleen's pulmonary team, a visit by her cardio-electrophysiologist with the bad news that Colleen's coumadin levels have fallen below therapeutic range in the past two days here, the additional bad news that this meant Colleen having to be intubated--risky and possibly unworkable--for the cardioversion procedure to proceed, Colleen having to decide yes or no to this, a second visit by the cardio-electrophysiologist several hours later to say that the head anesthesiologist vetoed the intubation and to present Colleen with the option of leapfrogging over the cardioversion altogether, the ablation as well, and going instead directly to the insertion of a "biventricular pacemaker" which he explained in great detail, Colleen giving the go-ahead as long as her primary pulmonologist Dr. Mathai concurred, a visit from Dr. Mathai who told us the pacemaker was the option he'd most wanted all along and who stayed to talk with us longer about all things Colleen. All this, plus multiple intrusions by the nurse, the blood tech, the nurse's assistant, and the nutrition attendant before 11:00.
Colleen will be leaving shortly for surgery. The procedure to implant the new pacemaker, which includes the insertion of a new lead into the left and right ventricles of Colleen's heart, will take between three to four hours. She's curled up in a blanket and resting until the anticipated knock on the hospital door.
Mignon,Thank you so much for the update.
